Four Indian racers will compete in the 11th edition of the Yamaha ASEAN Cup Race, which begins tomorrow. These four motorcycle racers will try to make a mark in the series while competing with 52 other racers from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines and Japan.
Rajini Krishnan, Deepak Ravikumar, Jagan Kumar and Padmanaban might fall short on international exposure when it comes motorcycle racing, but they compensate this shortcoming with determination. The One Make event will see three classes of racing – ST150, ST250 and MT (Manual Moped). While Rajni will be the solo Indian contender riding the R25 in the ST250 class, the other three riders will compete in the ST150 class, aboard the R15.
The Yamaha ASEAN Cup is an annual One Make race event hosted by PT Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing, the Indonesian arm of Yamaha, at the Sentul International Circuit. The ASEAN Cup Race was first conducted in 2003 and helps promotes Yamaha’s image as a sporty two-wheeler manufacturer.
Talking about the challenges and their competition, Deepak Ravikumar said, "In terms of experience, we are the least among the participating countries. The Indonesians and Thais have at least 15-20 international races in a year while I have participated in 12 or 13 international races since 2009. But we are no pushovers and we can compete with the riders of the other countries."
