The Central Government has asked all automobile manufacturers (two wheels and four wheels) to upload the data of the vehicles they have sold, to a government portal which will be active from October. This has been put in place to create a digital database of vehicles.
The catch is that the registration is a voluntary process for this year but will become compulsory from October 2015 with a rider that no two-wheeler/four wheeler would be registered if the requisite data is not provided.
A notification issued last month, says that all manufacturers would need to upload the specifications in the Central Motor Vehicles rules (Given in Form 20) to the portal. The creation of such a portal means it will be much easier to keep track of vehicles and simplifying the vehicle registration process thereby reducing queues at RTOs and other transport offices. The portal will also aid banks and insurance companies in providing services to buyers and owners.
It is believed that the manufacturers have welcomed the move and will readily share the data when the portal goes live.
