The GTS 300 is the next Vespa scooter that will be launched in India. The company is quite eager to get this scooter to India as soon as possible.
This news was confirmed to BikeWale by Stefano Pelle, CEO, Piaggio India, at the Mumbai launch of the Aprilia SR 150. The Vespa GTS 300 will be sold in India as a completely built-up (CBU) unit as the Italian maker doesn’t see big numbers for this scooter. And without good sales numbers, it doesn’t make sense to assemble or manufacture the GTS 300 in India. However, this scooter needs to be homologated before the official launch.
As per the top honcho, ARAI is finding it difficult to homologate the Vespa GTS 300 as it doesn’t have the necessary equipment. This has pushed the launch by a couple of months. However, if everything goes as per the new plan, the GTS 300 will hit the Indian market by the end of this calendar year.
The GTS 300 is the most powerful Vespa in the company’s line-up. The Indian arm of the Italian company had showcased this scooter at the 2014 Auto Expo, followed by the 2015 India Bike Week to gauge consumers’ reaction. It looks like the result was quite a positive one.
