Guy Martin’s Hydrex Honda CBR1000RR race bike that he rode at the 2008 TT event as well as in the British Superstock championship just sold for a measly sum of £14,720 (Rs 14.3 lakh). Considering that a stock motorcycle of its kind, in the second hand market without all of its history still holds a decent market value, this sum becomes hard to digest.
This particular CBR1000RR was ridden by Martin extensively over the course of 2008 and in 2009 during the British Superbike Championships. This was the model that also came second in the 2008 Isle of Man TT Superstock category in 2008 and it also achieved a respectable third place finish in 2009.
Guy’s old team, SMR Hydrex Racing originally sold this bike back in 2014 to a private owner, but it resurfaced and went under the hammer on 23rd April. The motorcycle has a certificate of authenticity from SMR Hydrex Honda’s chief engineer Mick Shanley. It sold for a disappointingly low price for such a glorious machine.
The auction had a number of motorcycle memorabilia up for sale, including Barry Sheene’s helmet. The smashed helmet was the one he fell with while testing at Daytona in 1975, it sold for £15,625 (Rs 15.12 lakh).
