Harley Davidson recently revealed the official teaser images of the HD 4XX roadster prototype, which gave us a glimpse at its styling and features. The motorcycle seems to be nearing its official launch given its production-ready body panels and hardware on offer. Here, we take a look at everything we know so far about the Harley Davidson HD 4XX roadster.
Styling
The teaser images revealed by Harley don’t offer a clear view of the motorcycle. However, the details are enough for us to believe that the HD 4XX’s styling is inspired by the Harley Davidson XR1200. Distinguishing design highlights include a teardrop fuel tank, a round LED headlight, and a stubby tail section. The motorcycle also features machined alloy wheels and retro-style round indicators.
Engine Specifications
Although Harley has not revealed the exact displacement of the bike, the number plate in one of the images has the HD 4XX words in it, which signifies that the motor will be a 400-450cc unit. What we do know is that the motorcycle will feature an air-cooled motor along with an oil cooler. The 8,000rpm redline on the speedometer suggests that this could be a long-stroke motor, tuned to offer good low-end and mid-range torque. The power figures will be revealed as we inch closer to the official launch.
Cycle Parts and Features
Going by the images, the motorcycle will feature premium cycle parts. It will sport upside-down forks up front and twin gas-charged springs at the back. Unlike the X350, the HD 4XX will feature axially-mounted callipers for the disc brakes at both ends.
The pictures also reveal that the motorcycle will feature CEAT Zoom Cruz tyres, with the rear being a 140/70 R17 unit, while the front could be a 100/80 R18 unit. On the other hand, the feature list includes full-LED lighting, a digital instrument cluster and dual-channel ABS.
Launch and Pricing Details
As we mentioned earlier, the Harley Davidson HD 4XX seems to be production-ready, and the official launch is sooner than expected. According to our sources, we expect the HD 4XX to go on sale in India sometime in October 2023, around the festive period.
As for its pricing, we believe Harley Davidson will be looking at an aggressive sticker price. So, we can expect it to cost somewhere between Rs. 2.50 lakh to Rs. 3 lakh (ex-showroom).
Competition
Given its engine capacity and features on offer, the Harley Davidson HD 4XX will compete against the likes of the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and the Meteor 350. Additionally, it will also rival the upcoming Bajaj Triumph Scrambler 250.
