Harley Davidson motorcycles saw a decrease in sales by 9.3 per cent in the US in the second quarter of 2017. Worldwide sales also saw a decrease of 6.7 per cent as compared to the same time last year. Overall, the manufacturer sold 81,388 motorcycles in the last quarter globally compared to 87,266 units sold in the same quarter in 2016.
Canada was the only international market which saw an increase in sales by 0.4%. In the US, Harley Davidson sold 49,688 units compared to 54,786 units sold in the same period last year.
Although Harley Davidson expected sales to go down in the April-June quarter, the company says that the US sales decreased much more than it anticipated. The company attributes the decrease in sales to the growing demand of used motorcycles over new motorcycles. However, Harley Davidson’s Milwaukee-Eight touring models saw an increase in demand. The manufacturer shipped 36,650 units that quarter over the 27,682 units it sold in the corresponding quarter for the previous year i.e., 2016.
