Yes, you have read the headline correctly; Harley Davidson created a specially modified version of its latest cruiser the Street 750 to participate in flat track exhibition race just weeks before the new bikes arrive at U.S. dealerships. Reigning AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National champion Brad “the Bullet” Baker lead the exhibition race on the Street 750 – the first all-new motorcycle platform from Harley-Davidson in 13 years.
Harley Davidson has also allowed its fans to decide if flat track racing should become a future medal sport at X Games Austin. It has given them the option to tweet their vote using #XGamesFlatTrack to make their voices heard.
“The action-packed environment at X Games Austin fits perfectly with the attitude and identity of the new Street 750 motorcycle,” said Dino Bernacchi, Director U.S. Marketing, Harley-Davidson Motor Company. “And, since we gathered input from more than 3,000 customers, riders and dealers in more than 10 countries around the world to create the Street platform, it seems only fitting to let our fans decide if Flat Track racing should become an X Games medal event.”
While it may be surprising to us in India that Harley goes dirt track racing with its premium motorcycles, the fact is that they have been doing the same thing for over 100 years now and have a full-fledged factory team in this regard.
The Street 750 and its smaller sibling the Street 500 will go on sale in America over the next few weeks for prices starting from 7,499 USD (Rs 4.44 lakh) and 6,799 USD (Rs 4.03 lakh) respectively.
