The Harley-Davidson X440 is the latest entrant into the modern-classic motorcycle segment. And, by virtue of its aggressive pricing, it is also the most-affordable Harley-Davidson you can buy in the country. Now, although the X440 has no direct rivals, its closest and biggest competitor is the Royal Enfield Classic 350, which is also the leader in the segment. In this article, we compare the features and specifications of the X440 with the Classic 350 and tell you which one gets what.
Design and Styling
Both motorcycles offer `authentic modern-retro styling. But, while the X440 features a roadster-like design, the Classic 350 features a characterful retro-street design. Both motorcycles get round headlamps, a teardrop shape for the fuel tank and comfortable ergonomics. But, while the Classic 350 features a well-rounded heartwarming design, the X440’s styling feels disjointed, especially because of its rear styling.
Features
On the features front, the X440 has a clear upper hand as it comes loaded with features like smart connectivity options, a semi-digital instrument cluster and LED lighting. The Classic 350 makes do with conventional halogen headlamps and a not-so-detailed semi-digital instrument cluster. That said, it gets the Tripper navigation pod as an option, which is better than the turn-by-turn navigation that the X440 gets. Both motorcycles come with the safety net of dual-channel ABS.
Engine Specifications
The Triumph Speed 400 sources power from a 398.15cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder motor that produces 39.5bhp at 8,000rpm and 37.5Nm at 6,500rpm. The engine is linked to a six-speed gearbox and gets a slipper clutch as standard. The motor offers peppier performance and is decently refined till about 4,500rpm, while vibrations can be felt at the pegs and handlebars above 5,000rpm.
On the other hand, the Royal Enfield Classic 350 uses a 349cc, air/oil-cooled, single-cylinder motor that pumps out 20.2bhp at 6,100rpm and 27Nm at 4,000rpm. This long-stroke engine is paired with a five-speed gearbox. The Classic 350’s engine too offers good levels of performance and refinement, however, it isn’t as laidback in its power delivery compared to the X440.
Cycle Parts
The Harley-Davidson X440 comes equipped with upside-down forks up front and twin gas-charged shocks at the back. The Royal Enfield Classic 350, on the other hand, features telescopic forks at the front and twin shocks at the rear. Both bikes get disc brakes at both ends along with the safety net of dual-channel ABS as standard. Meanwhile, the Classic 350 rides on 19/18-inch wheels at the front and back, respectively, while the X440 runs on an 18/17-inch setup.

Harley-Davidson really surprised with the X440’s pricing, which starts very close to the top-end Classic 350. The base X440 Denim variant costs Rs. 2.29 lakh, while the top-spec S trim is priced at Rs. 2.69 lakh.
