- Bronx is a streetfighter model while Pan America is an adventure tourer
- Both showcased at the 2019 EICMA
- India bound for 2021
Harley-Davidson, as we all know, is a brand that has been always associated with leisure motorcycling. But, with the times changing, the need to venture into other other forms of motorcycles seems inevitable. This is what the American bike maker has done by showcasing the streetfighter-based Bronx and the adventure touring focused Pan America. While the Bronx is a production-ready motorcycle, the Pan America is still in a prototype stage. Harley-Davidson has slated the launch of both motorcycles by late-2020 in the international market following which they will be launched in India by 2021.
This isn’t the first time Harley has built a streetfighter motorcycle. From the year 2008 to 2013, Harley-Davidson manufactured the XR1200, a powerful motorcycle with a naked streetbike stance. Fast-forwarding to the Bronx, the motorcycle carries a similarly aggressive stance with a butch look. It is powered by a new 975cc V-twin liquid-cooled motor equipped with counterbalancing for curbing vibrations and performance-oriented dual-down draft throttle bodies. Harley-Davidson has quoted max power output of 114bhp and peak torque output of 95Nm which should be exciting enough. The brand has also paid special attention to the bike’s handling by keeping the centre of gravity low. Besides that, expect the motorcycle to be sufficiently equipped with electronic aids to let the rider experience the best out of it. As for the cycle parts, the Bronx is suspended by inverted forks up front and a monoshock at the rear while braking is done by twin disc up front and a single disc at the rear.
Next is the Pan America. Now, although this off-beat looking adventure tourer is still in the prototype stage, it does provide a lot of information as to what can be expected from this upcoming motorcycle. Harley had revealed the motorcycle earlier in a picture in mid-2018 but showcased it in the flesh at the 2019 EICMA. It features a radical-looking design that gives it the vibe of a post-apocalypse motorcycle. The stubby front section featuring the rectangular LED headlamp flanked by the tall windscreen gives it an intimidating look. Besides that, the motorcycle has an overall chunky look with well-defined lines which gives it an aesthetic appeal. And to go with all that, Harley has equipped the Pan America with an all-new Revolution Max 1250cc V-twin liquid-cooled mill with counterbalancing. The motor is rated to churn out 144bhp and 122Nm mated to a six-speed box with a chain-driven final drive. Suspension setup will be adjustable with inverted forks and monoshock at the rear. Reportedly, Harley has collaborated with Brembo to develop 4-piston monoblock calipers for the motorcycle to improve its braking performance.
Once in the market, the Harley-Davidson Bronx will go up against the likes of the Yamaha MT-01, Kawasaki Z900 and Ducati Scrambler 1100. As for the Pan America, it will face competition from the motorcycles like BMW R 1250 GS, Triumph Tiger 1200 and Ducati Multistrada 1260 Enduro.
