Harley-Davidson has launched the Forty-Eight Special in India with a sticker price of Rs 10.98 lakhs (ex-showroom). The bike competes against the Indian Scout Bobber and the Triumph Bonneville Bobber in India. However, around its price there are nine options that you can consider. Here’s what the list looks like-
The Forty-Eight Special is based on the Harley-Davidson Forty-Eight which is priced at Rs 10.68 lakhs. While the Forty-Eight is also a city-cruiser, it gets a straight handlebar unlike the Forty-Eight Special’s ape-handlebars. The bike is powered by a 1202cc, V-twin engine that produces 60bhp and 96Nm of torque. Another bike from Harley-Davidson’s Sportster line-up is the Roadster. The Roadster has a sporty appeal courtesy its lowered handlebars, inverted forks and a twin-disc setup upfront. The Harley-Davidson Roadster is priced at Rs 11.15 lakhs and uses the same 1202cc, V-twin engine as the Forty-Eight Special.
You could also have Indian Scout Sixty with a styling that is inclined towards classic motorcycles. It offers a distinctive front and rear fender along with a curvy fuel tank. The bike is powered by a 999cc, V-twin engine that puts out 89Nm of torque. The Scout Sixty is the most affordable offering from Indian Motorcycles and is priced at Rs 10.99 lakhs.
Triumph also offers a similar motorcycle; the Bonneville Speedmaster at Rs 11.33 lakhs. Based on the Bonneville Bobber, the Forty-Eight Special’s rival, the Speedmaster offers a pillion seat and grab rails unlike Bobber. It uses a 1200cc, parallel-twin motor that generates 76bhp and 106Nm of torque.
Ducati contributes to this list with two motorcycles, the Hypermotard 939 and Scrambler 1100 priced at Rs 11.17 lakhs and Rs 10.91 lakhs respectively. While the Hypermotard 939 carries a supermoto styling, the Scrambler 1100 borrows cues from the Scrambler Icon. Powering the Hypermotard 939 is a 937cc, L-twin motor that produces 109.8bhp and 97.9Nm of torque. On the other Scrambler 1100 uses a 1079cc, L-twin engine. This unit puts out 83.2bhp and 88Nm of torque.
In the streetfighter segment Triumph has Street Triple RS retailing at Rs 11.13 lakhs. The bike sports additional electronics as compared to the standard Street Triple making it sportier. The RS uses a 765cc, inline-three engine that produces 121bhp; 10bhp more than the standard bike. The motor produces peak torque of 77Nm. Yamaha also offers a streetfighter in the form of the MT-09 which is priced at Rs 10.55 lakhs. Sporting an aggressive design language, the MT-09 is powered by an 847cc, inline-three cylinder mill that generates 111.8bhp and 87.5Nm of torque.
Now, if you are looking for a touring motorcycle around the price of the Harley-Davidson Forty-Eight Special, the Kawasaki Versys 1000 is your answer. The motorcycle offers a large fairing and windscreen for optimum wind deflection of long-tours. Kawasaki has is priced the Versys 1000 at Rs 10.69 lakhs and is powered by a 1043cc four-cylinder engine that delivers 118bhp and 102Nm of torque.
