- Harley-Davidson listed on the official Indian website
- Manufacturer's first electric motorcycle
- Likely to be launched by 2021
Harley-Davidson has effortlessly teased the world for quite a while with the LiveWire; its first electric motorcycle. It only recently announced the final details of the motorcycle which is available for purchase in American and European countries. So now, Harley-Davidson thought it right to tease us Indians by listing the LiveWire on its official website.
The Harley-Davidson LiveWire takes the majority of its styling cues from the Sportster line-up of motorcycles. It boasts of a full-LED headlamp which is covered by a tasteful-looking headlamp cowl. The tank also has the Sportster feel but everything under it shouts electric. Harley-Davidson has used a cast aluminium frame that houses the ‘Revelation’ motor.
This motor produces 103.5bhp, giving the LiveWire the title of being the most powerful Harley yet. Being an electric motorcycle it comes with a pre-notion of producing neck-breaking amounts of torque. However, the LiveWire seems to have something different in mind as it churns out a modest 116Nm. In comparison, its rival the Zero SR/F Premium produces 109bhp of power and 190Nm of torque.
As for its battery, the LiveWire gets a 15.5kWh battery that can either be fully charged in 12.5hrs with the ‘Level 1’ charger or in an hour with the optional ‘Level 3’ charger. That’s Harley being themselves right there. Anyway, the LiveWire offers a range of 225km in the city, 113km on the highway and a combined range of 142km which is decent enough.
In terms of electronic gizmos, the LiveWire comes with a 4.3-inch TFT display that has Bluetooth connectivity. The unit can also display turn-by-turn navigation, the exact location of the motorcycle as well as set up a geo-fence that notifies the user if the motorcycle has gone beyond or entered a set perimeter. Furthermore, it gets a six-axis IMU, traction control and a Drag-Torque Slip Control System (DSCS) that modulates torque available at the wheel.
Now even though Harley has the LiveWire listed on the Indian website, it is unlikely to be launched in the country anytime soon. This is because the country is still in the nascent stages of having proper infrastructure for electric vehicles. And while it is too early to comment, we can expect Harley-Davidson to introduce the LiveWire in India by 2021.
