- Production model revealed
- First electric motorcycle from the brand
Harley-Davidson has confirmed that the Livewire will go on sale in August 2019. The Livewire will be the first electric production motorcycle to wear the bar-and-shield logo.
The Livewire has been styled quite radically, quite similar to sports cruisers like the V-Rod, Ducati Diavel and the Yamaha VMax. The motorcycle is built around a lightweight cast aluminium perimeter frame. The concept which was showcased in 2014 featured a three-phase AC election induction motor that produced 74hp and 70Nm of torque. Harley-Davidson claimed a top speed of 148kmph for the Livewire. While the company has confirmed a launch in August 2019, it stopped short of divulging the specifications of the production model.
It is quite obvious that the Livewire won’t suit the taste of Harley-Davidson’s purists. Nevertheless, it is quite impressive to see the iconic American manufacturer get out of its comfort zone and experiment with futuristic technologies.
