- Will move out production of certain bikes out of US
- EU tariff hike is affecting the company
Harley-Davidson has announced that it will move production of certain bikes out of US. This move is being taken after the European Union retaliated to Trump administration's high import tariff on steel and aluminium coming from Europe.
In the last few stories we talked about Harley-Davidson taking the biggest hit as a result of this macro-economic development. As of now, the company manufactures most of its bikes in US, whereas a few bikes like the Street 750 are made in India. The American manufacturer hasn’t revealed where it plans to shift the production, but India could be in that list as the country already has a good supply chain, thanks to the production of the Street 750.
Currently, close to 80 per cent of Harley-Davidsons in India are assembled at their Haryana facility. Rest are imported from US as CBUs due to their big displacement engines and features.
"Surprised that Harley-Davidson, of all companies, would be the first to wave the White Flag. I fought hard for them and ultimately they will not pay tariffs selling into the E.U., which has hurt us badly on trade.” said Donald Trump in a tweet.
