Harley-Davidson recalls over 43,000 bikes over brake issue

- Over 13,000 units have been affected in US

- The models include Street 750 and Street 500

- No such recall has been reported for the Indian market

Harley-Davidson recalled over 43,000 motorcycles in several markets across the world over a brake issue. The models subject to recall include the Street 750 and Street 500 of which only the former is on sale in India. 

Of the total motorcycles recalled, around 13,000 affected units are from the USA. These are the models which were manufactured between May 2015 to December 2018. As for the fault in the motorcycles, the brake caliper piston is reported to have been corroded due to which the brakes may drag when applied. This may eventually result into a crash if ignored for a long time. 

Owing to the aforementioned fault, Harley-Davidson has temporarily stopped shipments of the Street 750 and Street 500 models in a few markets, where the glitch has been detected. In US, the company has notified dealers about the issue but it hasn’t been published on NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website. As for the Indian market, no such recall has been reported yet. The Harley-Davidson Street 750 is the most affordable model from the American bikemaker in India. It is priced at Rs 5.59 lakhs (ex-showroom).
