Harley-Davidson has issued two separate recalls for over 54,000 motorcycles in the US market. While one of these covers models like the Electra Glide Ultra Classic, Police Electra Glide, Street Glide, Street Glide Special and CVO Street Glide, the other recall involves the Street 750 and the Street 500.
The first of these two recalls involving the high-end cruisers has been issued to fix a fault with the clutch master cylinder, which over time might start malfunctioning especially when the motorcycle is parked for a long time. According to the recall statement issued by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the regulatory body in the US, ‘a chemical reaction inside of the sealed clutch system creates gas bubbles which may cause loss of clutch lift.’ This can cause the transmission to malfunction, moving the bike unexpectedly. Harley-Davidson has announced that the dealerships will flush the clutch system and rebuild the master cylinder free of cost, for the bikes covered under the recall.
While the first recall covers 45,901 motorcycles, the second recall affects 8,904 examples. The second recall for the Street 750 and the Street 500 does not involve any technical glitch and has been issued to install a rear reflector assembly. Some of the bikes manufactured by the company don’t come with these rear reflectors, which are mandatory under the federal guidelines, in the US. The dealerships will install the reflectors in the affected bikes, free of cost.
