Harley-Davidson has recalled over 10,500 Street 750 and the Street 500 in the US. The recall covers Street 750 motorcycles manufactured between May 12, 2014, and June 24, 2015, and Street 500 models manufactured between January 20, 2014, and June 24, 2015. This recall affects India as well.
The recall has been issued to rectify issues with the motorcycles’ fuel pump. The statement released by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the regulatory body in the US, says that the defective fuel pump inlet can cause an interruption to the fuel supply. This can lead to a brief hesitation in power delivery, followed by an abrupt return of power and may lead to the loss of control of the motorcycle, eventually leading to a crash.
Harley-Davidson India, meanwhile, has also released a statement on the same, “Harley-Davidson confirms that it has voluntarily recalled model year 2015 Harley-Davidson Street family vehicles, of which the XG750 model is available in India. We identified that some of the motorcycles may have a poor seal at the fuel pump inlet, and have announced the recall in the interest of customer safety. We are committed to correcting this issue and are working with our dealers in India to notify customers and request them to bring their motorcycles in for inspection."
Harley-Davidson dealerships in the US will contact owners and have the faulty component replaced, free of charge.
