Reports of Harley-Davidson re-registering the ‘Street Rod’ moniker in the US have sparked new speculations about the company’s plans of introducing a new V4-powered V-Rod cruiser.
Discontinued in 2007, the Street Rod was originally a power cruiser based on the V-Rod which rivalled the likes of Yamaha MT01, Suzuki GSX1400 and the Honda CB1300. With the company now reapplying for the trademark, rumours suggest that the American manufacturer is developing a new cruiser based on a completely new V4 platform.
The pictures that you see here show a 3D-printed model of a liquid-cooled Harley-Davidson V4 motorcycle, which have fuelled rumours about a new model. Internally called Project Overlord, the engine draws inspiration from the 1970s Nova V4 project. Harley-Davidson had previously toyed with the idea of a V4-powered motorcycle in the mid-2000s. However, the recession of 2008 and the eventual change of hands of MV Agusta’s ownership led to the plan being put on hold indefinitely. The recession led to the company realigning its focus towards niche motorcycles and their concentrating solely on traditional cruisers.
