- Affected bikes suffer from instrument cluster software error
- Display may not show speedometer and neutral indicator at low temperatures
- Harley-Davidson to update the software free of charge
Harley-Davidson has voluntarily recalled select units of the 2021 Sportster S over an instrument cluster software error.
According to the recall notice, the instrument cluster on select 2021 Harley-Davidson Sportster S models may not display speedometer or neutral indicator if ambient temperature is below 0-degree Celsius. The company further added that the instrument cluster will self-heat during vehicle operation, and that this condition can only occur at cold start-up. Operating a motorcycle without a visible speedometer or neutral indicator may increase the risk of a crash.
The American two-wheeler maker will update the instrument cluster module software on the affected motorcycles at no charge. The company has recalled 3,917 units which comprise three models – Sportster S, Pan America 1250, and the Pan America 1250 S.
Harley-Davidson India already offers the models mentioned above in the Indian market. However, the Indian arm of the American two-wheeler brand has made no recall announcement yet.
