The India-made Harley-Davidson Street 500 was launched in Australia for around 10,000 dollars (Rs 4.8 lakh) and has been an astounding success. The Street 500 sits in fourth position in the first quarter of 2016 total road bike sales in Australia. Moreover, it sits in pole position in terms of sales in the cruiser motorcycle segment.
In the cruiser motorcycle segment, the Street 500 came in first with 395 units. It is followed by the Harley-Davidson Breakout (FXSB) at 304 units between January and March 2016.
In the road motorcycle market, Honda was the leading brand, selling 20.5 per cent of the 11,576 road motorcycles sold between January and March 2016. Harley-Davidson was close behind in second place with 19.7 per cent of the road motorcycle market. Harley-Davidson was followed by Yamaha with 15.4 per cent of the market share.
Harley-Davidson India does not offer the 500cc Street option, but one can get the 750cc Street in India for Rs 4.7 lakh (Ex-showroom Mumbai).
