Harley Davidson has confirmed the launch of the recently unveiled Street 750 at the 2014 Auto Expo that's scheduled for February 5, 2014.
The American manufacturer has developed the Street 750 and the Street 500 on a completely new platform (first in 14 years). These new motorcycles have been designed and developed keeping in mind the young generation and will mainly be targeted at developing markets. The US, Italy, Spain, Portugal and India will be the first few markets to get these machines and later on the other growing markets.
For India, the company will only launch the Street 750, while the 500cc model will be exported from their plant in Hawal, Haryana. The Street 500 in India will get a lot of sales but we think it's because of the minimal price difference between the two; Harley took the decision to make way for only one. But personally, we would also love to have the Street 500 in the country as it will be the perfect entry-level premium cruiser for us.
The America manufacturer saw the potential of the country’s premium motorcycle segment and was the first one to set up a CKD plant where they assemble most of the highest selling models. For the Street 750 and the Street 500, it will be sourcing many parts from within the country, making it easier for them to keep costs in check. However, we have to wait and watch on how the world will perceive a global product that has been manufactured in India. Quality is one main aspect that will play a very important role for the success of these new models.
We will be getting more details on both the models, stay tuned to BikeWale.
