Harley-Davidson Street 750 to be unveiled on January 17

Harley Davidson is all set to unveil the Street 750 cruiser for the Indian market at the India Bike Week to be held on 17th – 18th January 2014. The motorcycle was first showcased at EICMA, Milan in November 2013. The Street series including the 500cc and the 750cc versions are an important part of Harley-Davidson’s strategy to increase their market share in one of the biggest motorcycle markets across the globe.

Along with the Street 500, the Street 750 is a part of the Dark Custom range of the American cruiser brand and will be the entry-level bike in the line-up. Harley-Davidson has designed an entirely new platform for these bikes for first time in the last 13 years. Aimed at young riders, the Dark Custom line-up of motorcycles was first devised in 2008 as the company aimed at making bikes lighter, more agile and faster. The Dark Custom Harleys have a pitch-black paint and typical cruiser design philosophies.

A new liquid-cooled ‘Revolution X’ engine was created using a 60-degree V-twin design for the Street 750. Mated to a six-speed gearbox, the engine features chain-driven single overhead camshafts and operates four valves per cylinder. Though not official yet, the engine is said to generate around 54bhp and 60Nm of torque.

The bikini fairing on the round headlamp is also reminiscent of the XLCR. The bike carries traditional cruiser design cues like all-black 2-in-1 exhaust, black pullback handlebars, comfortable seats, steel frame, mid-mount controls finished off with LED tail lights. The rubbers featured are 17-inch front and 15-inch rear Michelins. With a large wheelbase of 1,511mm, ground clearance and suspension travel has been raised by 50mm each at the front chassis when compared to the Iron 883.

The Street 750 will be built in the company’s Haryana plant in Bawal, India, which has been expanded to make room for a full manufacturing facility, just for the Street series. This is the first time that a Harley-Davidson product will be manufactured outside of USA. Until now, Harley-Davidson has only had assembly plants in India and Brazil. Prices will be announced at the launch, but with the local manufacturing, we can expect the on-road price to be below Rs five lakh.
