- Forty Eight Special is a Sportster model of Harley
- Street Glide Special belongs to the premium Touring range
- These are the special versions of the standard bikes
Harley-Davidson, the American leisure motorcycle brand, is all set to launch the 2019 Forty Eight Special and the 2019 Street Glide Special models on 14 March in India. While the former falls in the Sportster category, the latter belongs to the Touring family of Harley-Davidson. Both the bikes are special edition versions of the standard models.
The Street Glide Special is a touring-style model which features blacked out components, as opposed to the chrome on standard version, which makes it look more modern. This includes blacked-out alloy wheels, suspension, engine, exhaust and handlebar. The Forty Eight Special, on the other hand, gets minor distinctions over the standard bike. The ape-hanger handlebar and stylish ‘Throwback 70’s’ graphics on the fuel tank are what set the Special version apart.
The Harley-Davidson Forty Eight Special is powered by a 1,202cc, twin-cylinder, air-cooled engine which produces 60bhp of power and 90Nm of torque. It comes mated with a five-speed gearbox. Meanwhile, the Street Glide Special gets a humungous 1,745cc, twin-cylinder, air-cooled motor that makes 65bhp and 150Nm and is mated with a six-speed gearbox.
The Street Glide Special comes loaded with features to justify its touring tag. It incorporates a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity, GPS navigation, voice recognition system and support for telecom.
The Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special is currently priced at Rs 31.19 lakh in India. The 2019 model might get a minimal price hike. As for the Forty Eight, only the standard version is available in India at Rs 11.04 lakhs. And, looking at the pricing of both the bikes in the US, the Special version could be similarly priced as the standard.
