Harley-Davidson has announced its plans to exit the Indian market. The American cruiser brand will stop sales and manufacturing operations in the country. The company confirmed its plans to exit the Indian market in a press statement.
Harley-Davidson said that its “The Rewire” strategy aims to overhaul its operating model and market structure. Under the new plan, the American cruiser manufacturer plans to close its manufacturing facility in Bawal and significantly reduce the size of its sales office in Gurgaon. The American brand is expected to report USD 75 million in additional restructuring cost.
The company added in the press statement that it is changing its business model in India and evaluating options to continue to serve its customers. The dealer network will continue to serve customers through the contract term. Harley-Davidson is yet to update its customers in India on future support.
“The Rewire” strategy is planned to continue through the end of 2020. Later, the company plans to execute the next phase called “The Hardwire” that is planned for 2021-2025 and it aims at building desirability for the Harley-Davidson brand and products.
