Harley-Davidson has launched the Road Glide and Road Glide Special touring motorcycles, in the US, at USD 20,899 (Rs 12.75 lakh) and USD 23,199 (Rs 14.15 lakh) respectively. The Road Glide motorcycles were excluded from the company’s 2014 model line-up, though they have now been reintroduced as 2015 year models at the ongoing Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota, United States.
Both the Road Glide and Road Glide Special are powered by a 1690cc air-cooled V-twin High Output Twin Cam 103 which produces 143Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a six-speed Cruise Drive gearbox.
The front of the Road Glide and the Road Glide Special is dominated by dual reflector Daymaker LED headlights. Like a majority of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, the Road Glide gets loads of chrome on the engine, exhaust and the cast aluminium wheels. The new frame-mounted Road Glide Special fairing features a triple splitstream to decrease drag coefficient. The fairing houses an infotainment system with touch screen and GPS navigation. The system can also be controlled by twin joysticks placed on the handlebars.
Matt Levatich, president and COO, Harley-Davidson said, “Road Glide has always had an incredibly passionate following, which is why its return to the model line-up is exciting for our customers and our company. We’re delivering an improved ride for the Road Glide faithful,” Mike Goche, Product Planning Manager, Harley-Davidson added, “This new model respects that spirit while offering a significant improvement in comfort.”
The Road Glide also gets modern touches like air-ride rear suspension, saddlebags, cruise control and ABS. The Road Glide will start arriving at US dealerships on August 25 and will be available in five paint schemes- vivid black, amber whiskey, mysterious red sunglow (Road Glide only), black denim or superior blue (Road Glide Special only).
