When Harley-Davidson launched the Street 750, it was pretty obvious that we were going to see the versatile platform being used in different iterations. But even so, seeing a production flat tracker model is quite a surprise. The American manufacturer’s first ‘official’ factory built race machine in 44 years, the Harley-Davidson XG750R is a spiritual successor of the immensely successful XR750 which has been ruling the race tracks since the 1970s. A brainchild of Vance & Hines Motorsports, the XG750R started off its life as a road-legal Street 750, though it doesn’t share much semblance with its host motorcycle.
Being a race machine, Harley-Davidson hasn’t revealed all the technical details, though we can expect the XG750R to produce around 53 horsepower, up from the stock 47 horsepower.
Aesthetically and functionally, the Harley-Davidson XG750R has strayed away from the host’s cruiser personality to adopt a sportier and minimalistic character.
With AMA regulations allowing the bike to be as light as 136 kilograms, evidence of some serious weight cutting are visible throughout the motorcycle.
The slender fuel tank, high-mounted twin-pipe exhausts, flat seat with stopper and knobbly off-road tyres all serve a greater purpose than just making the XG750R look good.
With its racing debut scheduled in Illinois, USA, on May 29, the XG750R will be piloted by an 18-year-old Davis Fisher, who is seen here putting the bike through its paces.
For now, all we can do is ogle at these pictures, as this isn’t a road-legal motorcycle which makes it all the more difficult for Indian customers to get their hands on one.
