The Duet has overtaken the Maestro and Maestro Edge to become Hero MotoCorp’s most popular scooter in India. Hero MotoCorp sold 39,271 units of the Duet in April 2016, narrowly missing out on the 40,000 mark.
The Hero Duet, along with Maestro Edge, is the first indigenously developed scooter. Shrugging off its reliance on Honda, the Duet was developed on a brand new platform. While the scooter started off on a muted response initially, sales have been burgeoning in the past few months. Last month, the Duet’s sales numbers shot past that of the Maestro and Maestro Edge, making it the top-selling scooter in the company’s Indian portfolio.
The conservative yet elegant styling coupled with the funky paint schemes of this unisex scooter have been a hit with customers. While the Duet weighs six kilograms over the Maestro Edge, customers’ preference for the metal body has been instrumental in the Duet’s success. Customers also prefer paying extra for the Integrated Braking System thanks to the safety margin this feature offers. The Duet competes with the likes of the Suzuki Let's, Mahindra Gusto and the Honda Activa.
