Hero Electric is going to launch the country's first lithium-ion battery-powered electric scooter - the Optima DX. This will be the company's second new scooter to be introduced in India this year, after the NYX utility e-bike.
Propelling the Hero Optima DX is a 250 Watt BLDC electric motor, which draws power from a 48V battery. The talking point about the Optima DX is its lithium-ion battery, which is generally quicker to charge than other rechargeable batteries. Also, lithium-ion batteries are lighter than their conventional counterparts and have a higher power density. The top speed of the Optima DX is limited to 25kmph, which means that riders need not hold a driver's licence to ride this scooter. In one full charge, the Optima DX can cover upto 65 kilometres.
The Optima DX also gets a few creature comforts like a mobile charging point and GPS compatibility. The suspension duties are taken care of by telescopic forks upfront and a rear monoshock. Hero Electric is offering tubeless puncture resistant tyres as standard.
The Optima DX will be offered in two paint schemes - red and blue. The Optima DX comes with a 3 years unlimited mileage warranty. We can expect it to be launched in the next few weeks.
