Hero MotoCorp has taken control of the 125cc segment with the Glamour, gaining a lead over Honda’s CB Shine. The loss of ground for Honda in the segment and a considerable increase in sales for the Hero motorcycle has led to the same.
According to Hero MotoCorp, it sold a total of 109,955 units of 125cc motorcycles in April, which includes Glamour, Ignitor and Splendor, which is a 33 per cent jump over last year's sale of 82,298 units in April 2015.
A Hero spokesperson said, "Hero Glamour has become the country's largest-selling 125cc motorcycle for three consecutive months this year, thus further consolidating Hero's leadership in the 125cc segment."
Honda sells the CB Shine and CB Shine SP in the segment and has been losing ground. The sales of the Japanese company in the 125cc segment fell 10.5 per cent from 74,532 in April 2015 to 66,700 in April this year. This fall has led the CB Shine to lose its crown.
"The 125cc segment will continue to see growth in the medium term as replacement and upgrade demand will drive sales. There are also new markets where the segment has immense growth potential," he added.
Hero Glamour, which is now the top selling 125cc motorcycle in India, sold 66,756 units in April 2016 as against 52,752 units of CB Shine. In last year April, this number stood at 51,829 and 73,291 units for the two motorcycles respectively.
