The competition in the 125cc space is heating up at a brisk pace as these commuters are being equipped with some new-age novelties. Take the recently-launched Hero Glamour Xtec for instance. It incorporates a host of advanced features that aren’t present in its standard trim. Now, the motorcycle goes head-on against the Honda SP 125 that’s another 125cc offering with some desirable traits. If you’re confused about choosing one of them, let’s make it easier for you.
Design
Despite being commuters, the Glamour and SP 125 both look a bit sporty and handsome. The body work is dominated by edgy and smooth lines flowing all over. But the main difference is that the Glamour looks slightly larger than the SP. Even the new H-shaped LED headlamp in the Glamour Xtec gives it a distinctive look.
Features
Both bikes are generously equipped with features for their class but the new Glamour Xtec takes things a notch higher. The highlight of the bike is its Bluetooth-enabled fully-digital instrument cluster that has turn-by-turn navigation, gives message/call alerts, and shows a host of data. It also comes equipped with a mobile charger, side stand engine cut-off feature, and Auto Sail tech for an easier ride in traffic.
While the SP 125 does get an LCD dash, it misses out on Bluetooth technology and other nifty features available in the Xtec. What it goes get is an integrated high beam and pass switch, and a silent starter. The illumination setup is common on both bikes with an LED headlamp along with a halogen tail lamp and turn indicators.
Engine
Powering the Glamour is a 124cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that produces 10.7bhp and 10.6Nm. On the other hand, the SP 125 runs on a same-sized engine with the power and torque output of 10.7bhp and 10.9Nm, respectively. Transmission setup is also a common five-speed unit. While there isn’t a considerable difference in performance numbers, the kerb weight is different. At 117kg, the SP 125 is 5kg lighter than the Glamour Xtec.
Cycle parts
The set of cycle parts the Glamour and SP incorporate are nearly identical. A pair of 18-inch alloy wheels, telescopic forks, and hydraulic dual shock absorbers are all the same. Even the braking setup comes in options of drums at both ends and a single disc at the front. A slight difference exists in their fuel tank capacity though as the SP 125 has a larger 11 litre unit as against the Glamour’s 10 litre tank.
Price
The prices of both bikes are nearly identical, despite the Hero Glamour Xtec offering a longer list of features. The Honda SP 125 is priced at Rs 78,381 (drum) and Rs 82,677 (disc) while the Glamour Xtec costs Rs 78,900 (drum) and Rs 83,500 (disc) (all prices are ex-showroom, Delhi).
