Hero MotoCorp recently revived the Karizma brand with the launch of the Karizma XMR. It is the latest two-wheeler offering from Hero and is likely to spawn a few more models in the near future. In the 200cc segment, the Karizma XMR rivals the Bajaj Pulsar RS 200. So, we’ve compared the two bikes on paper.
Design
The Karizma XMR has brought a brand-new design, which looks not only refreshing but also quite youthful. It features a single-piece headlight, which is further divided into smaller pieces. There are tri-arrow LED DRLs at the sides with projector LED lights at the centre. Then, there’s an adjustable smoked visor, too, on the XMR. On the other hand, the Pulsar RS 200 gets twin projector lights nestled in a two-piece setup. It, too, gets cuts and creases all over the bodywork but the RS 200’s design has remained unchanged since its launch.
Features
Hero has equipped the Karizma XMR with LED illumination, fully digital console with smartphone connectivity, and a USB charging port. The Bluetooth compatibility gives the rider access to turn-by-turn navigation, and SMS and call notifications. Meanwhile, the RS 200 gets a semi-digital instrument console with all the necessary readouts. However, there’s no Bluetooth connectivity on the bike.
Engine
Powering the new Karizma is a 210cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, four-valve engine and it makes 25.15bhp at 9,250rpm and 20.4Nm at 7,250rpm. It’s mated to a six-speed gearbox and benefits from a slipper clutch. On the other hand, the Pulsar RS 200 is powered by a 199.5cc single-cylinder engine developing 24.2bhp at 9,750rpm and 18.7Nm at 8,000rpm. It’s linked to a six-speed gearbox.
Hardware
Both bikes ride on telescopic front forks and a monoshock. Even the braking hardware for the Karizma and the Pulsar is similar – single front and rear disc with ABS. These are mounted on 17-inch alloys wrapped in 100/80 front and 140/70 rear tyres.
Price
The asking price for the Karizma XMR is Rs. 1.80 lakh and the Bajaj Pulsar RS 200 is priced at Rs. 1.72 lakh (both ex-showroom, Delhi). For a few thousand rupees more, the Karizma offers more features, more power, and a new design too.
