- Hero MotoCorp launches BS-VI-compliant Splendor iSmart in India
- Carries a premium of around Rs 8,000 over the BS-IV version
- Updated in terms of powerplant, engine and cycle parts
Hero MotoCorp has launched its first BS-VI-compliant motorcycle, the Splendor iSmart, in India at Rs 64,900 (ex-showroom). With that pricing, it demands a considerable premium of around Rs 8,000 over its BS-IV counterpart. Interestingly, this is also India’s first motorcycle which is compliant with the upcoming emission norms, set to be implemented from 1 April 2020 in the country.
Firstly, the most important change the new Splendor iSmart has received is a new fuel-injected motor, in place of the previous carbureted mill, which makes it adhere to the BS-VI emission norms. Hero says the engine has also been tuned to deliver more punch with higher torque and better fuel-efficiency. Now, it churns out 9bhp at 7,500rpm and 9.89Nm at 5,500rpm. This is an increase of 0.89Nm in torque but a reduction of 0.3bhp as compared to the previous powerplant.
What’s more, the new Splendor iSmart also gets an all-new diamond frame which replaces the double cradle frame of the outgoing model. This is complemented by a longer front suspension travel and a higher ground clearance for a more comfortable ride. Furthermore, the motorcycle also gets longer wheelbase for improved stability. Coming to the looks, the new Splendor carries an overhauled design with restyled body panels including a new bikini fairing, fuel tank, under seat cowl and a redesigned tail section. Lastly, it also features a new set of decals which gives it a fresh appeal.
The motorcycle will be available in three colour options including ‘Techno Blue and Black’, ‘Sports Red and Black’ and ‘Force Silver and Heavy Grey.’ Hero will make the BS-VI Splendor iSmart available across India in a phased manner starting from Delhi in the next few days.
