Hero MotoCorp will be launching a new product the day the 2017 Dakar Rally ends in Argentina. This news was revealed by Pawan Munjal, CEO, Hero MotoCorp.
This news came as a surprise to most us who were attending the launch event of the new Achiever 150. Hero has its own Dakar Rally team and it plans to take full advantage of this crazy sporting event. Pawan Munjal went on to say that this launch would be a global one and will be their biggest launch event. This made us think what is this product?
Well, in the beginning we thought it would be some kind of an adventure bike as it will be launched at the end of Dakar Rally. But after spending some time with the Hero officials at the new Achiever 150 media ride, it’s almost clear that it’s not an adventure bike. In fact, this bike would be not be related to adventure or dual-sport at all. The bike in question could be the new Xtreme 200S which the company showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo. The new Xtreme 200S is almost ready and the Gurgaon- based manufacturer wants to launch it by the end of this financial year. As per its current strategy, Hero MotoCorp first wanted to strengthen its bread and butter models, which they have with the 100cc and 110cc Splendors, new scooters and the latest being the 150cc new Achiever. Once that was done, the company wants to explore the segment up to 200cc as it’s a highly profitable segment and the new Xtreme 200S is the answer to that.
