Hero MotoCorp has recently launched its new 125cc scooter, the Maestro Edge 125, in India. The scooter has been introduced in three variants – carbureted with drum brakes, carbureted with front disc and fuel-injected with front disc which are priced at Rs 58,500, Rs 60,000 and Rs 62,700, respectively. Now, let’s check out what other products the Indian market offers around this price range.
Starting with the closest competitors of the Maestro Edge 125; you have the Suzuki Access 125, Honda Grazia and the Honda Activa 125. Both the Honda scooters are powered by the same 125cc motor which produces 8.5bhp and 10.54Nm. However, the biggest difference lies in their styling. While the Grazia looks more modern and stylish, the Activa 125 features a conventional design. The former comes with a price tag of Rs 60,815 while the latter starts at Rs 60,440 (drum brakes) and goes up to Rs 64,825 (front disc).
Coming to the Suzuki Access 125, the scooter has been bestowed with a no-nonsense retro styling. Although less equipped with features, the Access offers a good mix of refined engine and impressive handling. Moreover, it is more affordable than the Activa 125 with the prices starting from Rs 56,582 (drum brakes) and going up to Rs 59,996 (front disc). Now that we are talking about family scooters, Hero itself has the Destini 125 which gets the same engine as the Maestro Edge 125. However, it carries a more conventional design and comes with lesser features. The Destini is available in LX and VX variants which cost Rs 55,080 and Rs 57,930, respectively.
Moving on from the 125cc scooters, there are a few other options with lower engine capacities and more affordable price tags. You can opt for the popular Honda Activa 5G which costs Rs 54,724. It is powered by an efficient 109.19cc mill which makes 8bhp and 9Nm. Moreover, the Activa 5G comes equipped with full-LED headlamp; a rarity in its segment. Furthermore, the Yamaha Fascino can also be considered for its unique and curvy design along with a large 21-litre under seat storage space. While the standard version of the Fascino costs Rs 55,123, its Darknight variant retails at Rs 57,123.
To be more environment-ethical, you can also opt for one of the electric scooters available in this price range. Okinawa offers the feature-loaded Praise which comes equipped with LED headlamp, LED DRLs and a digital instrument cluster with loads of information. The Praise is powered by a 72V/45Ah battery which takes an hour to fully charge and provides a range of 200km. Moreover, it gets three modes – Economy, Sport and Turbo which deliver a top speed of 35kmph, 65kmph and 75kmph, respectively. The electric scooter is priced at Rs 59,889.
