Hero MotoCorp has pulled the plug on the Maestro scooter. This scooter will no longer be sold in India.
The Gurgaon-based manufacturer has taken the Maestro down from its official website as well. In September, Hero MotoCorp has said that it will end its royalty payment to Honda for the usage of engine technology on the Maestro and other models like the Impulse, Passion X Pro and the Ignitor. The Maestro uses the same 109cc engine from the Honda Activa.
The strong acceptance of the Maestro Edge also helped the company take this decision. The Maestro Edge was been developed in-house by Hero and is powered by their new 110cc engine. The sales of this scooter have been good in India, however, the Duet is performing much better than the former.
With the decrease in the royalty payments, Hero MotoCorp will have more money to pump into R&D. The company’s current focus is to make a big dent in the premium bike segment and the rumoured launch of the Xtreme 200S next month will be the first step towards it.
