Hero MotoCorp has finally announced the prices of the Mavrick 440 and is offering the bike in three different variants – base, mid, and top. The new Hero bike rivals a handful of names in the segment and this time we are comparing it against the Triumph Speed 400.
Design
The Hero Mavrick 440 sports a thorough neo-retro design. It gets a round LED headlight, bulbous-looking fuel tank, and a single-piece setup. From the images, it seems that the Mavrick has a low stance, which could make it easier for shorter riders. Moreover, the Hero bike has centre-set footpegs, too. On the other hand, the Speed 400 also seems to blend the old-school styling with its modern bits such as the LED headlight very well. However, it not only appears taller but also gets a slightly sportier riding position.
Features
Hero has offered full LED lighting, fully digital instrument cluster, as well as Bluetooth connectivity for turn-by-turn navigation and phone alerts for the Mavrick. Further, it is equipped with automatic headlamps and a USB-C charging port. Meanwhile, the Triumph Speed 400 gets LED illumination, semi-digital console, ABS, traction control, ride-by-wire, and a phone charging port. It doesn’t get any sort of smartphone connectivity features at all. So, the Mavrick seems to offer a slightly better feature suite.
Engine
Powering the new Hero Mavrick is the same engine that the Harley-Davidson X440 uses. It is a 440cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled motor, and belts out 27bhp at 6,000rpm and 36Nm of peak torque at 4,000rpm. Meanwhile, Triumph has packed a 399cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine in the Speed 400. It makes 39.5bhp and 37.5Nm. Both engines get a six-speed gearbox. Here, it’s quite clear that the Speed 400’s engine is not only more modern but also makes more power and torque.
Hardware
Hero has equipped the Mavrick 440 with telescopic front forks and a monoshock. Its brakes include a 320mm front and 240mm rear disc mounted on 17-inch alloys. However, the base model gets spoke wheels with tube tyres. On the other hand, the Speed 400 uses USD front forks and a monoshock. It, too, gets disc brakes at both ends with dual-channel ABS.
Price
The asking price of the Mavrick 440 is Rs. 1,99,000 for the base model, Rs. 2,14,000 for the mid, and Rs. 2,24,000 for the top trim (all ex-showroom, pan India). The Triumph Speed 400 is offered in a single variant and costs Rs. 2,33,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi). Thus, the top-spec Mavrick variant costs Rs. 9,000 less than the Speed 400.
