Hero MotoCorp is aiming to sell over two million units of Splendor motorcycles before the end of the 2013-2014 financial year. Splendor has been the largest seller for the Gurgaon-based company but over the last few months its sales have declined by over 16 per cent to 9,00,000 units.
The company has developed new engines for their future line-up but it has confirmed that they are not in a hurry to switch from the current engines that have been developed by Honda. Splendor and Passion are Hero’s two biggest revenue generators featuring Honda technology. The company has also developed a start-stop technology that will feature in the Splendor iSmart.
"The entire industry was struggling in the first half of the year and brands like Splendor and Passion were not insulated. But in the past two months of the festival season, there has been a revival. Right now, we need stocks. In January we will know if the revival is sustainable but Splendor will continue to be a 2 million unit brand," said Anil Dua, senior vice-president, marketing and sales, Hero MotoCorp.
"We are developing our own technology for the whole portfolio but there is no compulsion for us to replace the Honda legacy. We can continue to use it or improve it internally for as long as we want," Dua added.
