Hero MotoCorp recently unveiled its updated range of products out of which the company is betting big on the new version of its highest selling motorcycle, Splendor. Called the Splendor iSmart, this new scooter is expected to hit the market in next few weeks and is likely to help the company gain its lost market share.
The Splendor iSmart will target the mass market segment like its older twin but will offer new features that will make the motorcycle a very attractive proposition. This scooter gets a start-stop system – the first for any motorcycle in India. What this system does is it automatically shuts down and restarts the internal combustion engine to reduce the amount of time the engine spends idling, thereby reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
The Splendor iSmart also gets a new meter console; new body graphics that will attract young buyers, split grab rails and front cowl with wind screen. Mechanically, the motorcycle will feature the same 100cc engine that powers the current Splendor. This engine churns out 7.5PS at 5000rpm and 7.95Nm at 5000rpm.
"The new products demonstrate Hero 'Can Do' approach to have independent strength to develop indigenously. The new line showcases progress Hero has made on its current range, and also indicates the company's plans to bring new platforms in 2014," said a Hero dealer to ET.
Knowing Hero MotoCorp, we can expect the Splendor iSmart will be priced very aggressively. It’s time for Bajaj and Honda to buckle up and do something on the same lines.
