Hero MotoCorp has brought the product development activities of Erik Buell Racing to India. After EBR’s bankruptcy, the Gurgaon-based manufacturer acquired certain tangible and intangible assets for a huge sum.
With this new development, the R&D activities for its two upcoming models – the HX250R and the Leap hybrid scooter can now resume. Both these products were mainly developed by the EBR engineers in collaboration with Hero MotoCorp engineers. However, majority of the inputs came from the American company due to the sophisticated technology and process, which Hero MotoCorp is yet to master.
Due to the Erik Buell Racing bankruptcy, the launch of the HX250R and the Leap have been pushed by a year. While we don’t really mind the delay in the launch of the Leap scooter; the Indian motorcycle enthusiasts were really looking forward to this new single-cylinder fully-faired motorcycle. But looks like, they have to wait a while longer to get their hands on it.
Hero MotoCorp had showcased some really good products like the Hastur and the iON at the 2014 Auto Expo. All these models were co-designed and developed with Erik Buell Racing making us believe that if ever these products go into production, the final prototype will come from their R&D centre in Jaipur.
