Hero MotoCorp has announced that its proposed manufacturing facility in Chitoor district of Andhra Pradesh will become operational by December 2018. The announcement comes about 18 months after the company first finalised on the location of this fifth of its kind manufacturing facility.
Hero MotoCorp will invest Rs 800 crore in the first phase, boosting the company’s annual production capacity by 5 lakh units. The facility will deploy state of the art manufacturing technologies as well as eco-friendly design and provide employment to 1,500 people. The factory will not only cater to the Indian market, but also act as an export hub for the rest of south and east Asia. The next two phases, with an investment of Rs 800 crore each, will further supplement the annual production capacity by 5 lakh and 8 lakh units respectively, offering over 3,500 job opportunities.
While Hero MotoCorp’s sales numbers in India continue to burgeon, the Gurgaon-based manufacturer has been focussing on expanding in other global markets. Till it was bound by the joint venture with Honda, the only other market which the market catered to was Columbia. But now, the company has been concentrating on improving local product development as well as expanding their footprint in Latin America and Africa. The recently launched Centre of Innovation and Technology in Jaipur was set up with the aim of developing state of the art products for Indian as well as other global markets. With the development centre now in place, Hero is now focussing on expansion of manufacturing network to help it cater to the demand.
