Hero MotoCorp has commenced production at its new manufacturing facility in Halol, Gujarat. Set up with an investment of Rs 1,100 crore, the new facility can churn out 18 lakh two-wheeler per annum.
While the factory was supposed to become operational by the end of last year, demonetisation and the subsequent drop in two-wheeler sales forced the company to revise its plans. Now though, the company has rolled out its first motorcycle, a Splendor Pro, which was donated to the Somnath Temple Trust.
In the first phase, the new plant has a capacity to roll out 12 lakh two-wheelers, though this number will eventually be increased to 18 lakh units. The Halol factory is the company’s sixth manufacturing facility. Hero is looking at exporting 12 lakh two-wheelers a year by 2020, and the Halol plant and most of this requirement will be met by the halol plant. The company is also setting up two new facilities in Andhra Pradesh and Bangladesh.
