Hero MotoCorp has filed papers seeking to trademark the HX250R moniker in Europe. This step demonstrates the Delhi-based manufacturer’s intent of launching the quarter-litre motorcycle in the European market. The HX250R was publicly unveiled earlier this year along with a host of other radical two-wheelers from different segments, and is one of the most anticipated motorcycles from the company.
The HX250R has been developed jointly with Erik Buell Racing and has been built around a geodesic tubular frame with the engine as a stressed member. It is powered by a liquid cooled single-cylinder 249cc engine which churns out 30.6bhp and 26Nm of torque. The fuel-injected engine can be operated in two modes – eco and power, and comes mated to a six-speed constant mesh gearbox.
As the HX250R weighs just 139kgs, the exceptional power figures should make it much quicker than the Honda CBR300R and almost as quick as the superlight KTM RC200. The HX250R rides on 17-inch alloy-wheels with Pirelli Sport Demon tyres. Braking power comes through a 300mm disc at front and a 220mm disc at the rear, with combined brakes and ABS.
After dominating the Indian two-wheeler market for more than a decade, Hero MotoCorp seems to have set its eyes on the European market. Small capacity motorcycles are the Delhi-based manufacturer’s forte and it is this market that the company will target in Europe as well as other global markets. A report says that the company has filed for seven more patents in Europe for small capacity motorcycles, in addition to the HX250R.
