Workers in the Hero MotoCorp’s Gurgaon factory have started to go slow on the production line. As a result of this, the company had a production loss of around 1000 scooters on Wednesday. Currently, the workers have slowed down only one production line which manufactures scooters. Usually, this production line produces 2500 scooters every day. However, due to this action by the workers, only 1500 scooters were rolled out.
"We noticed some deliberate tampering of the settings of production equipment by workers at our Gurgaon plant today as well, which has marginally compromised the day's output” said spokesperson of Hero MotoCorp. "We are confident of making up any marginal shortfall in production even as we remain committed to engaging in talks with the union to reach at an amicable solution," the spokesperson added.
The Gurgaon workers are demanding a monthly wage hike by up to Rs 18,000 over a period of three years. The company is however stuck at Rs 6,500 which has irked nearly 1200 workers.
“There have been no talks with the management today and we plan to keep the slowdown at the same level on Thursday as well. We may resort to slowing down production further if our meeting with the management on Friday is not successful. This is a peaceful protest and we have started small as we want the management to understand that we are serious about our wage demands,” said a union member.
