- Operations suspended in India, Colombia and Bangladesh
- Task Force to monitor the situation
- Filed an interlocutory application to extend BS6 deadline
Hero MotoCorp has announced that it has temporarily suspended operations at all its global manufacturing facilities – including in India, Colombia and Bangladesh - and the Global Parts Centre (GPC) at Neemrana. The production halt at the company’s manufacturing facilities is effective immediately until March 31, 2020.
The company’s employees, except for those whose physical presence is necessary to run essential services, will continue to work from home. Dr Pawan Munjal, Chairman of Hero MotoCorp has set-up a Task Force that will monitor the developments through regular video conferencing and tele-meetings.
Apart from suspending production, Hero MotoCorp has filed an interlocutory application before the Supreme Court, seeking relaxation of the deadline set for sale or registration of BS-IV vehicles. The company has requested for an extension of time for three months. The BS6 emission norms are currently scheduled to come into effect from 31 March 2020. The Ministry of Finance has declared that the COVID-19 should be considered as a case of natural calamity and force majeure be invoked, said the company in its filing to the stock exchange.
Previously, Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA) had approached the apex court in the country to extend the BS6 deadline until 31 May. The Supreme Court has already turned down the plea made by FADA.
