Hero Motocorp is having an exceptional run in India as well as other global markets. The country’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer is leading the pack since the past few years and recently revealed its intent to enter South American markets by 2016. Now, according to the latest developments, Hero is planning to ramp up production by setting a new plant in South India and further strengthen its position in the country.
The new facility in question will be the manufacturer’s sixth facility in the country. Hero currently has three manufacturing facilities in India with two more under construction. Currently, the three functional facilities have a combined capacity of 6.9 million units.
Talking to PTI, Pawan Munjal, Hero MotoCorp MD and CEO said, "We are looking to set up a plant in South India. It will be utilised to service the market there. We are scouting for land at the moment."
The new facility is a part the company’s strategy to setting up 20 plants and increasing footprint to 50 countries by 2020. The new plant is expected to have a capacity of 1.5 to 2 million units and will help the company increase annual capacity to 12 million units.
