Delhi-based two-wheeler manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp, has registered a jump of eight per cent in the overall sales in June 2014 compared to the corresponding month last year. The company sold more than 5.41 lakh units in the last month, helping it retain the top position in the Indian two-wheeler market.
The first quarter of the FY15 ended on another high note for Hero MotoCorp as sales over the Q1 grew by 10 per cent over those in the Q1 of FY14.
Last month saw Hero MotoCorp’s fourth manufacturing plant in the country become operational. Located at Neemrana in Rajasthan, the new plant has an installed annual capacity of 7.5 lakh units. With this new unit, Hero MotoCorp currently has an annual capacity of 76.5 lakh two-wheelers.
June 2014 also saw the company’s Global Parts Centre (GPC) at Neemrana become functional. The facility has an automated system of storage and retrieval, automated packaging and sorting and on-line tracking of parts.
The last fiscal saw the Hero Splendor top the sales chart of two-wheelers produced in India, once again. The company recently also introduced the new CBZ Xtreme, Karizma R and Karizma ZMR which is expected to further boost the company’s sales figures.
Last month, the government announced an extension of the excise duty cut on automobiles for six more months. The announcement came as a breather for two-wheeler manufacturers as the concessions had led to a considerable jump in sales figures. While the sales figures are expected to keep improving owing to the extension in duty cuts, Hero feels that sub-normal monsoon might dampen demand both in rural as well as urban markets.
