Riding on the success of its commuter motorcycle range, Hero MotoCorp has registered its best ever calendar year performance, in 2014. While the sales in December 2014 grew by a marginal 1,107 units, the company sold a staggering 66,45,787 units of two-wheelers in 2014 in the domestic and other global markets.
April to December of the last year also witnessed a significant growth in cumulative sales, as the company sold eight per cent more two-wheelers as compared to the same period in 2013. Hero MotoCorp’s growth has been spearheaded by its Splendor and Passion range of motorcycles, which seem to be in demand in the company’s global markets as well.
As a part of its plans to achieve 12 lakh units in sales by 2020, Hero MotoCorp has been aggressively expanding its footprint by entering new markets in Africa and South America. In 2014, Hero MotoCorp launched its products in Turkey, Bangladesh, Nicaragua, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique, Angola, Ethiopia and Colombia. The company also commenced construction of a new plant in Colombia, which will be its first fully-functional overseas manufacturing facility. In 2015, the company will mark its entry into the European markets, with the help of its American partner, Eric Buell Racing.
