Hero MotoCorp has revealed that its sales on the day Dhanteras surpassed the two lakh mark, which has helped it maintain a clear lead over its arch rival, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI). This festive season has set the cash registers ringing for the Delhi-based manufacturer, as it witnessed an 80 per cent jump in sales numbers, on the auspicious day.
Speaking about the company’s achievement, Mr. A. Srinivasu, head of national sales, Hero MotoCorp said that they had anticipated this kind of demand in this festive season and had already dispatched over six lakh vehicles to dealerships across the country. Dhanteras has traditionally been the day when the most number of two-wheelers are sold in India, and this year has been no different. Honda, the country-second largest two-wheeler manufacturer, also broke its previous year’s record by selling over 1.65 lakh two-wheelers on Dhanteras, though Hero MotoCorp has edged ahead in terms of sheer volumes.
Mr. Srinivasu said in a company statement: "This Dhanteras has been a phenomenal day of retail sales for Hero MotoCorp. For the first time, our total sales to end-customers across the country in a single day far surpassed the 2,00,000 mark on Tuesday, which is a growth of over 80 per cent over Dhanteras day last year.”
Hero MotoCorp recently inaugurated a new manufacturing facility at Neemrana, Rajasthan, to join the other three plants in India. Built with an initial investment of Rs 1,050 crore, the plant is a part of the company's plan to get a cumulative production capacity of 100 million units by 2020. Keeping in mind the company’s current growth rate and its aggressive expansion in other global markets, it seems that Hero MotoCorp might cling on to the title of the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer for quite a while now.
