Hero MotoCorp to bet big on adventure bikes

- Hero MotoCorp unveiled a prototype model of its new ADV motorcycle

- The production-spec model may arrive in the next two years

- Hero MotoCorp wants an ADV to be its flagship model

Hero MotoCorp plans to bet big on the ADV segment. In fact, the Indian two-wheeler brand would like to have an ADV as their flagship model.

Hero MotoCorp unveiled its first ADV product, the Impulse in 2010. The company unveiled another ADV product, the XPulse 200 at the 2018 EICMA motorcycle show before launching it in India in 2019. The XPulse 200, which is currently the only ADV model in the brand's portfolio, comes with several premium features such as LED headlight and Bluetooth-enabled instrument cluster while retailing at a competitive price tag.

More recently, Hero MotoCorp revealed a prototype motorcycle at its Global Centre of Innovation and Technology (CIT) in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The displacement details about the prototype motorcycle were not disclosed, although it could arrive in the 300-350cc segment. The final version is still some time away, and the company may take at least two more years before revealing the production-spec model.

The final version should pack several features to rival the KTM 390 Adventure. Thus we could see equipment such as full-LED lighting and Bluetooth-enabled instrument cluster on the production-spec Hero ADV. Apart from the ADV, the new platform could also spawn more products in different segments. Regular readers would remember that the company had displayed the XF3R concept at the Auto Expo 2016.

Apart from the production-spec version of the prototype motorcycle mentioned above and the XPulse 200, Hero MotoCorp may also add a 250cc and a 500cc product in the ADV range. The Impulse may also make a comeback with the BS6 compliant motor from the recently unveiled but yet-to-be-launched Xtreme 160R.

In the short term, the two-wheeler brand is busy upgrading its product portfolio to comply with the newest emission norms, and the next motorcycle in the upcoming list will most likely be the BS6 XPulse 200.
