- Didn’t get much sales for the company
- ABS addition would increase the overall cost
- Won’t be on sale from 1st April
Hero MotoCorp will pull the plug on its only 150cc motorcycle, the Achiever this month. This bike won’t go on sale from 1st April, that’s when the mandatory ABS norms kicks in.
The Achiever 150 has been a victim of poor sales since a few years. While the bike was packed with good performance and attractive styling, it failed to make a mark in the highly competitive 150cc premium commuter segment. However, this Hero did continue to sell in certain regions.
According to our sources, the Gurgaon-based manufacturer decided to stop producing the Achiever as the fitment of ABS would make the bike quite pricey and that will slow down the sales even further. So it makes sense for the brand to discontinue the motorcycle.
We believe Hero MotoCorp will definitely bring a new motorcycle in the next few years to fill the void. But only time will tell if it will be a traditional 150cc motorcycle like the Achiever or if Hero will work on an attractive and aggressive motorcycle to compete against the Honda CB Hornet 160R.
