The country’s leading bike maker Hero MotoCorp has been eying the Brazilian market for quite some time now. Previously, the Indian bike maker made an attempt during the 2016 Olympics. But since Brazil uses ethanol blended petrol, Hero has been working towards developing flexi-fuel engines for the country, which will be introduced with the brand’s debut in March 2019. Along with Brazil, Hero MotoCorp is also aiming at entering the Mexican market around the same time.
Reports indicate that Hero MotoCorp looks forward to compete against its former Japanese partner, Honda Motor, which has been holding a strong foothold in the Brazil since 1976. An official statement claims that Honda accounts for 80 per cent of the motorcycle market in Brazil. Although, it is too early to comment on how much of the market share the company aims for, it is anticipated that Hero MotoCorp will likely aim at a large share of the Brazilian market.
Currently, Hero MotoCorp holds presence in about 35 countries and moving forward, it aims at being present across 50 countries by 2020. The two-wheeler maker has a manufacturing facility in Colombia along with assembling units in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda which has been established through its distributors. Moving forward, we can expect to see market specific products including scooters and large-capacity motorcycles being introduced by Hero MotoCorp across global markets.
